Frequently Asked Questions
One of the main differences is that our website is publically accessible
to all, just like Ebay or Amazon. Everyone, including our administrators
and our patrons, can visit our website. It is the public face of our
union.
Our
Yahoo group (mailing list) is limited to librarians employed by
BECPL. Subscribers have to confirm their identities before being
admitted. The archives are restricted to subscribers. It is a
private communication channel for BECPL librarians.
Library administration has the legal right and the technical capability to monitor our buffalolib email accounts. Discussing union issues on their email servers could compromise confidentiality. Also, union business should be conducted on our own time, not on company time.
Yes, public employees can use a tax-exempt form for work-related travel.
See Dolly Lach in the Business Office for the tax exempt form.
